Titian “Man in Armour” at Ambrosiana Gallery Pinacoteca in Milan Italy
Titian (1488 — 25 August 1576) “Man in Armour”
Painting - Oil on Canvas (63 x 58 cm) 1530According to Cardinal Federico Borromeo (Frederic Borromeo), this portrait of a man in Titian armour was that of his father, Gregorio Vecellio, captain of the Centuria of Pieve di Cadore, who bravely defended the fort he commanded against the troops of Maximilian of Austria.
He is a father but also a soldier whose determination and energy are reflected in the features of his face with prominent cheekbones and in the intensity of his look, the look of a leader of men.
His thick and mighty hand holds the command staff firmly.
The whole attitude of this man expresses his nobility of character and courage.
A beautiful tribute from Titian to his father.
